National Gardening Week Did you know it’s National Gardening Week - the UK’s single biggest celebration of gardening as a hobby? This week-long event is organised by the Royal Horticultural Society every year to raise awareness of gardening and horticulture, and encourage more people to take up these healthy and productive outdoor pastimes. This year, National Gardening Week runs from 2nd through 8th May and features a number of fun, educational activities, from guided gardening workshops to floral crown-making classes, which you can read more about on the RHS website. As we move into May and the summer maintenance schedule kicks in for our Operations team and contractors, you can expect to see more of us over the coming months, with a greater frequency of maintenance visits to account for both increased plant growth and increased use of local open spaces and facilities, due to the longer and warmer days. For those who are interested in National Gardening Week but don’t live near any of the five official RHS locations (Salford, Surrey, Essex, Yorkshire and Devon), remember your local Greenbelt-managed open spaces and woodlands are designed with your leisure and amenity in mind. Remember to look out for our new Communities web portal, launching soon, through which you’ll be able to apply for official Greenbelt support and funding for your own local events, such as community fetes, fun runs, sponsored fundraisers and more. If you have any queries, from gardening advice to questions about the open spaces themselves, or you’d like assistance from our specialised Community Liaison team to set up an event in your area, please feel free to contact us with details and we’ll do our very best to help.
