Greenbelt Retains Coveted Green Flag Award Today, Greenbelt is celebrating after retaining a Green Flag Award for our flagship development at North Hamilton, Leicester. The news that Greenbelt has achieved the accreditation - the international quality mark for parks and green spaces - for the second consecutive year is testament to the hard work and dedication of the team that care for the green space so that everyone can enjoy it. "It's fantastic news that North Hamilton has been selected to retain the coveted Green Flag Award," said Donald Ferguson, Greenbelt's Green Space Services Director. "It really speaks to all the hard work put in by our Operations and Community Liaison teams - not just to maintain the level of quality and care which saw us first attain the Green Flag Award last year, but to proactively build and improve on these standards for the benefit of the local area. "For example, earlier this year we installed two 'adventure walk' trails, designed to take people through a range of varied environments and features - such as the nearby wetlands trail to the Hamilton Sundial. "Both routes start and end in the public open space, where locals can take pride in the Green Flag itself displayed on the large flagpole as a symbol of our support and commitment to the community." Keep Britain Tidy’s Green Flag Award Scheme Manager Paul Todd MBE said: “I would like to congratulate everyone involved at North Hamilton in achieving a Green Flag Award. “North Hamilton is a vital green space for the community in Leicester, bringing people together and providing opportunities to lead healthy lifestyles. The staff and volunteers do so much to ensure that it maintains the high standards of the Green Flag Award and everyone involved should feel extremely proud of their achievement.” The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.
