Let's Celebrate National Meadows Day! National Meadows Day takes place every year on or around the first Saturday of July, with UK organisations big and small holding events to highlight the importance of these special habitats. This year, Plantlife, which is leading the creation of meadows around the UK, with 12,000 acres created and restored since 2013, is launching a new hub where you can find everything you need to know about creating and caring for meadows. Whether you have a small garden, allotment or a shared community space, there are plenty of top tips to help you create and nurture dedicated areas of species-rich grassland. At Greenbelt we already manage wildflower meadows as a very important feature within our Public Open Spaces. These help to boost species biodiversity of flora and fauna in your development – alongside many different types of shrubs and trees and food-rich hedgerows. Our long-term mission to protect habitats and species also includes working with local communities to build wildlife refuges, such as bird boxes, bat boxes and hibernacula. Did you know Greenbelt also manage designated and protected habitats on a number of our developments, such as Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), ancient woodlands and Sites of Importance for Nature Conservation (SINC)? Let’s work together to make 2022 the year of the meadow! Previous article: Summer Gardening Tips Prev Next article: Greenbelt Presents NGO Impact Award Next
