What We Do: Roade Historical Society
Our Community Liaison department teamed up with the Roade Local History Society and staff at Persimmon Homes to install an authentic piece of blacksmithing equipment, called a section bender, as well as an accompanying plaque at our Abbey Place development, in Northamptonshire.
Section benders were used by blacksmiths to bend hot metal bars into curved shapes, from archways to train tracks.
Chris Hillyard, chairman of the Roade Local History Society, explained to local homeowners how this particular example had seen use in a local factory which produced piano supplies and, later, vehicle and aircraft parts during WW2.
