World Water Day Today is World Water Day; an annual UN day of observance raising awareness of the importance of clean water and its impact on our health, climate and communities. This year's theme is "be the change", and encourages people to think more deliberately about the ways we consume, manage and conserve water. You can read more about this - including the Lazy Person's Guide to Saving Water - on the UN Sustainable Development website here. Greenbelt manages many Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SuDS for short) on developments all around the UK, and these are instrumental in efficiently retaining rainwater and surface runoff water for the benefit of the local environment. Our pioneering SuDS even filter out waterborne particulates and help mitigate the risk and severity of urban flooding - but appear as an interconnected system of ditches and specialised planting, meaning they provide all of these benefits without impinging on the aesthetic draw of the open spaces.
