Met Office Issues Extreme Heat Warnings The Met Office has issued the first ever red warning for extreme heat, across large parts of England, this Monday and Tuesday (18th and 19th July). There are additional amber warnings for extreme heat in place for the remainder of England, as well as the entirety of Wales and large parts of southern and central Scotland.A red warning denotes “an exceptional hot spell (...) leading to widespread impacts on people and infrastructure, [with a] high risk of failure of heat-sensitive systems and equipment,” and so we are urging all of our customers and contractor teams to please take care and stay safe during these unusually warm conditions.Amber warning areas are less likely to be dramatically affected, but travel delays and adverse health effects such as sunburn and heat exhaustion are still projected. A spokesperson from the Met Office has stated there is an 80% chance we'll see a new record-highest UK temperature set during this period. Please remember to apply sunscreen and wear clothing appropriate to the weather. It’s also important to stay hydrated, and take regular breaks in the shade if you are working or travelling in the heat. All red and amber warnings are currently only in place until midnight on Tuesday; at present, there are no warnings of any type for Wednesday or the rest of the week.If you have any questions or concerns, please remember our offices are open for business as usual and you can Contact Us through both our regular customer care channels and emergency phone line as normal.
