Mapping the way forward for place-keeping, LTS and enabling ’Tis the season for conferences and the housebuilding industry has taken its own opportunity to gather together and share ideas. One of the most important events has been the Garden Communities and New Towns Development Conference in Kensington Town Hall in London, where Greenbelt were delighted to take centre stage. The conference, designed to address key issues faced by the industry, saw Greenbelt Chief Executive Andrew Duthie chair a session focused on Major Garden Community and New Towns Development Plans. Andrew tabled specific subjects for in-depth discussion: ‘Placekeeping’ and ‘Long-Term Stewardship (LTS) Solutions and Enabling Placemaking’. This allowed Andrew, guest speakers and delegates, both in attendance and online, to explore the short and long-term realities of managing Public Open Spaces for the benefit of new communities. The solutions discussed were strong on the need for optimal outcomes in service, costs and the enablement of sense of place and community. Sponsored by Greenbelt, the UK’s unrivalled leader in the stewardship of Public Open Spaces (POS) on new home developments, the session also welcomed invaluable input from Fiona Gray, Project Director, Welborne Garden Village; Rosa Etherington, Associate Director (Planning), Countryside Partnerships PLC; and Sarah Robson, Director of Development and Regeneration, Karbon Homes.
