Greenbelt Staff Join Chartered Institute of Horticulture We're delighted to announce that no fewer than three of Greenbelt's team have qualified to become members of the Chartered Institute of Horticulture (CIH). This prestigious body was established in 1984 with the aim of fostering a close relationship between all sectors of professional horticulture throughout the UK and Ireland. On July 21, 2014, the Institute became Chartered, a status that strengthened the influence and voice of the CIH and all horticulturists with government and policy makers. It has also boosted the status of horticulture as a profession - one that demands high-level skills and, of course, continuous professional development. To become a CIH Member requires a combination of academic success and proven experience of working within the industry. Donald Ferguson, Services Manager UK for Greenbelt, said: "I'm very excited to be part of the Institute. My membership now allows both myself and Greenbelt as a whole to keep right up to date with events in our ever-changing industry. "It will also help the company stay firmly at the forefront of the latest innovation, ideology and legislation." Alex Garrett, Green Space Development Director (UK) for Greenbelt, said: "Having worked in a wide range of horticultural roles over more than 35 years, becoming a member of CIH is immensely satisfying. "CIH is renowned as the only organisation that can bring together all professionals involved with every aspect of horticulture. I look forward to sharing their passion for a united and constantly growing profession." Janet McQuillan, Director of Services at Greenbelt, said: "As Glasgow City Council's first ever female apprentice gardener, and now with more than 35 years of experience in strategic management, becoming a Member of CIH is an immense privelege and is sure to complement my Chartered Managers membership. "I look forward to all three of us becoming involved and using our skills and knowledge to keep Greenbelt at the forefront of responsible and innovative environment management."
