Green Flag Award Opening Ceremony We are very proud to officially unveil our first-ever Green Flag Award - a prestigious international mark of quality for parks and green spaces - at North Hamilton, Leicestershire. Greenbelt recently installed a flagpole on the open space at North Hamilton to display the Green Flag itself, awarded in early August, and held a small flag-raising ceremony with Hamilton Residents Association and the local community to celebrate this accolade. Graham Cole, chair of the Hamilton Residents Association, raised the flag to open the event, which also included Greenbelt-branded free pens, keyrings and wildflower ‘bee bomb’ seed packs for attendees. Managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, the Green Flag Award recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the UK and around the world. “I’ve been working with the local community in North Hamilton since 2007,” said Nick Upton, Greenbelt’s Community Liaison Officer. “It’s great working with Hamilton Residents Association and the people of North Hamilton. A big thank you to all, this award is for them too. “The event was a lovely day and well-attended by local residents. The aim is now to keep it going and retain this Green Flag Award for future years.” “It was a real pleasure to meet the local community, I really enjoyed spending a day with Hamilton Residents Association,” said Tariq Saeed, Greenbelt’s UK Operations Manager. “It was really good to see such a diverse representation of the local community, especially the children, the next generation, taking part. “Thank you also to Horizon Landscapes, Neil [Berwick, of Abertay University’s Urban Water and Technology Centre], and Nick, our Customer Liaison Officer. “Keep up the good work everyone, I hope you all continue to enjoy the facilities at North Hamilton.” The ceremony was also attended by Becci Martin of The Environmental Partnership, local vicar Ed Down, and Alex Garrett and Martin Wardale of Greenbelt’s Delivery team.
