Congratulations Tony Benger Landscaping Congratulations to Tony Benger Landscaping and their Grounds Maintenance department: winners of two British Association of Landscape Industries Awards. The prestigious accolades include the Nature Conservation and Biodiversity Enhancement Award for their work with Greenbelt at Newlands (The Buntings). They’ve also won the Grounds Maintenance Free Public Access award for their operations in Cranbrook Country Park. Tony commented: “It’s really nice for our team to win two completely different awards. The Newlands (The Buntings) project took our team out of their comfort zones, working with internal and external experts in a variety of fields to create the ‘first successful provision of Cirl Bunting habitat attached to an active development and then new housing estate in the UK’.” Located in coastal Devon, The Buntings takes its name from the rare passerine songbirds who live here. Threatened with extinction in the 1980s, they’ve enjoyed a resurgence, though, listed as red conservation status with the RSPB, still need "urgent action". Thanks to Greenbelt and the award-winning work of Tony Berger Landscaping, we provide the ideal environment for Buntings to survive and thrive, with major areas set aside as rough grassed wildlife habitat. These areas enjoy a grazing regime as recommended by an expert ecologist, creatively maintaining a diverse sward, while keeping mechanical costs and emissions to a minimum. Well done to Tony Berger and his team, who share Greenbelt’s strong focus on biodiversity, not only helping birdlife but an incredible variety of different flora and fauna.
