Greenbelt Group teamed up with Malvern Hills District Council to install this amazing house martin tower on our Malvern Hill development in Worcestershire, offering opportunities for safe nesting.
House martins – small perching songbirds, close cousins of the swallow – are red-listed in the UK on the conservation concern list, owing to a sharp decline in their population in recent decades.
“House martins need mud to create the nests,” said our Ecology & Sustainability Manager, Sarah Williams.
“We are looking into opportunities to manage the habitats on-site to promote this.”
It’s estimated the structure has capacity for up to 100 nests, with the migrating birds set to arrive in the UK around April and stay through September or October.
