Do you have a favourite tree? It could be in your own garden, part of your new homes development or a famous landmark.
Wherever it may be, new or mature, tall or small, now’s your chance to nominate it to become Tree of the Year 2019.
Nominations for the Woodland Trust competition are open until noon on July 19 for any living tree in the UK.
You can make your nomination as an individual, group or organisation and – thanks to support from People’s Postcode Lottery players – there is up to £1000 up for grabs in tree care awards for the most successful or deserving trees.
These awards are aimed at highlighting the beauty and importance of trees but also helping to support and celebrate their healthy future.
They can be used to cover the cost of work such as pruning, fencing, haloing, mulching for root protection and removal or management of competing vegetation.
They can also provide interpretive or educational materials, signage or digital information that helps build support for your tree, as well as arrange tree surveys or professional management advice.
And, most fun of all, they can enable community engagement activities to help support and protect trees.
Here at Greenbelt we have a passion for trees. That’s why every year we plant hundreds of thousands of them – a campaign that not only enhances the beauty of local environments but also helps reduce the effect of planet-wide CO2 emissions.
