dundee delight at new play area

New and improved Greenbelt play area re-opens in Balgillo

A children's play area at Sandy Park in the Balgillo area of Dundee has re-opened to the delight of residents, and the children in the area in particular. Funding of around £60,000 was secured by local residents in conjunction with Dundee City Council.

The play area is owned by Greenbelt, but had been subjected to a series of attacks by vandals over the years and was becoming an eyesore. A campaign to re-instate the play facilities was led by local schoolgirl Kirstie Burnett (13) from Forthill Primary School, and it received the backing of Greenbelt and Dundee City Council. Other funding partners included the National Lottery and Marks & Spencer.

Greenbelt is pleased to have been involved with this project, as it demonstrates that a local

initiative with partnership working can deliver benefits to communities.
