Woodland wonders and perfect play areas
Six years and counting! That’s the milestone Greenbelt has reached at its Russell Brae development on the Cathkin Braes.
Noted for its impressive land management designs, its residents are particularly proud of the woodland layout.
Greenbelt Regional Operations Manager, Duncan Park, who has been managing the site since its completion: explains: “Implemented by CALA, this development makes great use of the existing natural topography, utilising the relatively steep slope.
“The three development spurs progress up the hill and are separated by planted buffer zones of indigenous mixed conifer and broadleaved woodland.”
Designed by the Developers Landscape Architects in conjunction with the local Planning Department, a shorter growing Woodland Edge Mix was used on the lower slopes so that uninterrupted views to the North can be enjoyed by residents.
“Normally taking eight to ten years to establish, with ongoing weed control and gap planting, these woodland areas are now flourishing and are an impressive feature for the homeowners,” Duncan points out.
“In addition, a well maintained Play Area is located at the end of the lower spur, and link paths are present, leading to existing mature woodlands and the adjacent golf course.
“Well maintained amenity grass areas, entrance hedging , shrub planting, and individual larger ‘standard-sized’ trees also add to the highly visual attractiveness of this development.”
