The 54-hectare, former greenfield site includes more than 160,000 square metres of open space and quality landscaping, designed around an enormous sustainable urban drainage system (SUDS) uniquely managed to minimise flood risk to many hundreds of local homes and businesses. 

This SUDS is the single largest and most comprehensive example we manage anywhere in the UK, and is used for hands-on training in partnership with Abertay University’s Urban Water Technology Centre. 

The 12-year construction phase saw Greenbelt work closely with Leicester City Council’s planning department - as well as liaising with eight national housebuilders and housing associations - and the emergent new community to shape the flagship development we manage today.
